How selling works

In every store on SMPHUB, SMPHUB is the seller. That is what makes it simple for you: we take care of the contract with the buyer, the payment and the legal texts, and you get your share. Here is how it works in plain words.

This page explains our model in plain words. What binds is the text of our terms, our terms of sale and our privacy policy; our legal texts are drafts that a lawyer is reviewing.

SMPHUB is the seller

When a player buys in your store, the purchase contract is concluded between the player and SMPHUB, not with you. That is why every store names SMPHUB as the seller and shows our imprint, our terms of sale and our privacy policy.

This model is often called “merchant of record”: the platform sells in its own name and is responsible for the purchase towards the buyer.

The chain of contracts

You make the content of your store available to SMPHUB: ranks, cosmetics, supporter packages.

At the moment a player buys, SMPHUB acquires that content from you and resells it to the player in its own name (reseller model).

For this you receive 80 % of the price as your remuneration. You provide the purchased content on your server and bring your players to the store. The details are in sections 2 and 7 of our terms.

What this means for you

You do not write an imprint or terms for your store and do not need a payment account of your own, because SMPHUB is the seller. Payments, withdrawals and refunds run through us.

You set up a payout account at Stripe once, in your store panel; that is where your share goes.

You keep full control over what your store offers, as long as it follows the Minecraft EULA.

Taxes

SMPHUB is currently a small business under German VAT law (section 19 UStG) and charges no VAT. Should that change, the VAT comes off the price first and the split applies to the rest; we tell you before that happens.

You are responsible for the taxes on your own income. We settle your remuneration monthly by credit note, and after each year you get an overview of your remuneration for your tax return. The credit notes and the overview come with the payouts.

Where the law requires it, in particular the Platform Tax Transparency Act (PStTG), SMPHUB reports your data and remuneration to the Federal Central Tax Office.

The buyer’s rights

Buyers have the statutory right of withdrawal. For digital content it ends when delivery starts, if the buyer expressly agreed to that and confirmed they know they lose the right; the store asks for both before payment.

The statutory warranty for digital products applies. Buyers under 18 need the consent of their parents.

If a purchase is refunded or charged back, our share and your remuneration for it lapse; Stripe takes your part back from your payout account.

Store owners from 16

You can run a store from 18, or from 16 with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. In that case the parent or guardian also takes part in setting up the payout account at Stripe. Applications from people under 16 are declined.

What may be sold

Only what the Minecraft EULA and Mojang’s Minecraft Usage Guidelines allow: cosmetic ranks, pets, particle trails, supporter packages and similar. Not allowed: gameplay advantages for money and capes or anything made to look like a Minecraft cape. Mojang can change these rules; stores that break them are suspended.
